We stayed at the Surf Break on our first trip to Puerto Rico. It was amazing – the town of Rincon gave us a real feel of the people and lifestyle on the island. The home was wonderful and had everything that we needed to make our stay perfect. We have used the Home Away site for many trips in the past and I have to say that the amenities in this property were the best so far. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything that we needed to prepare home cooked meals during our stay. It was very nice to just be able to gather groceries after a day at the beach and know that we could hang out in the home, cool off with the A/C and spend time together as a family for dinner. The entire home was so clean and showed attention to detail in making sure that what we needed during our stay was available to us. The rooftop BBQ and pool were amazing too. Thank you for providing us such a great experience on our trip!!

The house was beautiful and spacious. It accommodated three families and there was room to spare. The house is close to the downtown area and many other attractions. Rincon is really one of the premier City’s in Puerto Rico and The Surf Break is in an excellent location in Rincon. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone considering it as a rental.

We had a wonderful stay in the Surf Break. We had 6 adults in the 4 bedrooms and it worked out perfectly. The kitchen was stocked with excellent equipment for making meals and drinks, the bedrooms were very comfortable with great A/C units and balconies (off the master), and the great room was a perfect hang out spot with its big balcony. We were also blown away by the roof deck and the panoramic views, as well as the shaded little pool that was perfect after a hot day. What added a lot to the vacation was the accessibility to the quaint little town of Rincon and the nearby beaches. We enjoyed walking down to the beaches at the bottom of the road (10 mins) as well as driving to other local spots. We had fantastic meals at local restaurants (yelp provided highest rated places) and cooked at home a few times too. This would be a place I would come back to if visiting mainland PR. Thanks for a great vacation.

This home is not only beautiful with a fantastic view but so much attention was paid to the fine details for making guests comfortable. The owner and property manager are both very nice, attentive and helpful with any questions or concerns, and the neighbors we encountered were also very friendly. Loved all the beautiful sounds of nature around us, birds, tree frogs, etc. Fantastic location, close to many beaches and restaurants.

Our Hosts Thought of Everything

This was by far the nicest accommodation and experience we have had with VRBO. Our hosts thought of everything when they prepared this beautiful residence for vacationers. From the pool in the garden to the roof top deck, the accommodations were top notch. Our party of 7 adults had plenty of space and the villa provided space to gather as a group and areas for solitude and privacy when desired. The villa was well stocked with appliances and equipment. Beach chairs and umbrellas were available for use, it featured a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable up to date furniture provided a homey feel. Beautiful art in the form of wooden engraved paintings and art glass throughout added to the welcoming and crisp clean decor. The wine cooler was a nice touch and the magnetic screens made for easy access to the living room deck. Overall this was a great experience and it is highly recommended for a large family or group of friends.

Our large group of 10 enjoyed every minute in this beautiful home. We had more than enough room to spread out, but mostly enjoyed having spaces large enough to hang out together. We cooked breakfast nearly every day in the well equiped kitchen. Spend at least some time at the pool daily – other parts of the day really loved that there was lots of beach gear (chairs, coolers, boogie boards). We spend nearly every evening with a drink on the lovely roof top. The house was ready and spotless for our 3am arrival. Craig emailed to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We even had to call him for advice when one of our group lost a passport – he had the answers for us!! We happily recommend this home for large groups. Hope to see you again, as we are huge Rincon fans!

Amazing house in a great location for Rincon, PR. Close proximity to Sandy Beach and Domes Beach, restaurants and bars, convenience store and breakfast a block away. The house offers amazing 360 degree views. Plenty of space to hang out with a large group between the large kitchen and combined living area, the main level balcony, rooftop deck, and pool area. The house came with beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, and even has a Vitamix (the Cadillac of blenders)! Overall a great location, great space, plenty of beds and a great host as well. Craig was very responsive and provided plenty of information about the property and Rincon. Definitely would be back for another surf trip to Rincon.

This home was an excellent choice for a PR rental! This was our first time to Rincon, and the house was perfectly situated for exploring…convenient to different beaches and restaurants whether by car or walking. There was plenty of space for our group and we loved hanging out on the rooftop as well as in the main area and balcony. The pool was a great option as well. And the landscaping — beautiful! Other conveniences: outdoor showers (very well-used to get the sand off our shoes, etc.), space for our surfboards, perfect & comfortable outdoor furniture, good cooking items (need new knives though :), very comfortable beds, etc. In addition, small details were met like luggage holders, an ironing board, hair dryers and guides to Rincon & PR. Plus, Craig was fantastic to work with – personable, flexible and full of helpful information.

Being honest, I was sold for that house when I saw the picture of the rooftop. It was enough for me to imagine how awesome it will be to grille some T-bone steak on that roof.. We stayed at the property for the week of March 14th to 19th and simply loved all about it. Great Location: quiet and at the same time close to everything what is necessary for perfect vacation. Different variety of beaches, stores, cafe, bakeries and restaurants is not far away at all. The house has nice furniture pieces, roomy outside space with hammocks and couches where you can enjoy the absolutely stunning sunset. Kitchen with full amenities, bedrooms, pool – we like everything in the house and promised to yourself to visit again. The house has the website (http://www.thesurfbreak.com) and there is bunch of information about the area as well. Craig was helpful, responsive and attentive to all our needs. Thank you for making our vacation ewen more awesome.

We just had a family vacation there and the home is beautiful. We were seven adults and the layout was perfect. Master is on main level and all our adult children stayed on the other level. The separation was nice. We spent most of our time at the home on the porch and by the pool. The house is so much nicer than the pictures show. I felt like I was in a brand new home as it was so clean and well kept. I was a little nervous renting a home sight unseen but Craig was amazing. He answered all my questions and sent an email after we arrived to make sure all was okay. The area is wonderful as well. Lots of things to do and places to eat and drink. Great relaxing vacation in a well appointed, comfortable home. Jenny D.

I just finished a stay in this house. We had seven adults and three teenagers. The house had plenty of room. The ladies kept commenting on the quality of every aspect of the home. The location is great. The pool is wonderful. All the balconies are amazing. The weather was very hot when we were there, but the AC blew cold in every room. We were always happy to come back home to the Surf Break after the end of a day at the beach. And, I’d like to say, that Craig is one of the best VRBO owners I’ve ever worked with. Hugely helpful and just an all around nice guy. I’ve never met him, never been to PR before, but he made the whole thing feel safe and easy. I recommend this place without hesitation.

Our family (there were 7 of us in total-ranging in age from 68 to 7) stayed at this property for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time! Prior to our arrival we were in contact with the owner several times, not only regarding information about the home, but also information about recreation, restaurants, the community, etc. He was very knowledgable and sent a wealth of information about the beaches, restaurants, night life, and anything else we would need to have a fun, comfortable stay well in advance of our arrival and was great about answering any specific questions we had in a timely manner. The home was very clean and was equipped with everything we needed–a full kitchen with extra amenities such as a wine fridge, awesome blender, etc; lots of towels-both for showers and also the pool/beach; LOTS of seating; balconies with amazing views; ceiling fans and air conditioners in every room; 4 bathrooms (3 with huge showers); a fantastic pool area; outdoor showers for rinsing off when returning from the beach; a rooftop balcony grill; and beach amenities such as chairs, coolers, and beach toys for our children. The home felt very safe-completely secured by gates/locks and monitored by security cameras outside the property. The house is in a great location-minutes from a number of great beaches and restaurants. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for everyone. Though we didn’t need them, a high chair and pack n’ play were stowed in a closet for those traveling with babies/toddlers. The property has WIFI and cable TV which was very convenient to have. The house also has a back-up generator which proved handy while we were there as the power went out for nearly a day. Our experience staying at this property was awesome and I would highly recommend it to any type of traveler, from adventure seekers to families with children, young or old! We would love to come back and stay when the surf is up!

We stayed at this beautiful property for a family gathering..It was absolutely awesome! The owner was gracious, got back to us immediately with any questions we had. He was very accommodating to any and all requests. The house had everything we could possible need or want. It as beautifully decorated, very clean, the pool was gorgeous, plenty of seating for everyone, owner even provided us with beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler, etc to bring to the several beaches in the area and we did use these. You good tell that this owner really cherishes his property. The view from the balcony outside the main living area was spectacular, we watched many beautiful sunsets from this spot, as were the views from the rooftop deck where we watched the stars at night. Nice large table chairs and grill was also provided on the rooftop deck It was nice to have the option of turning on room air conditioners when & where needed. These came in particularly handy to drain out the sounds of the rooster crowing in very early morning, but at the same time it was nice to have the roosters there. The sounds of Puerto Rico! Owner left a list of suggestions of where to eat, beaches, etc. with directions which came in very handy. The bakery close by was very handy for sweets in the a.m. and great homemade bread Just can’t say enough about this property and the owner. Hope to go back. Highly recommend this beautiful property.

“Perfect property for our needs (2 toddlers, in-laws)”
Date of Stay Dec 2, 2014

This property was perfect for us. The owner has gone through every detail to make it feel like home. AC in all living areas, plenty of fans and windows to enjoy the naturally pleasant breezes, comfortable beds and furniture, brand name appliances, high quality cutlery, plenty of towels (bath and pool), plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas, multiple coolers for the beach, top end grill for the roof, cable on a massive TV, WiFi, beautiful pool. I could go on and on. The master bedroom is roomy with 2 balconies and a HUGE shower. Other rooms are nice as well. Fit and finish is top notch. This isn’t an old house that someone repainted and started renting out. It was rebuilt so it feels like a new home. The views are breathtaking. Located on the top of a hill, you can see amazing sunsets every night. I am telling you, we felt like this was OUR home. The owner was very responsive and helped us trouble shoot a few very minor issues (water heater breaker tripped). If you ask me, the location is ideal for Rincon. You are 5 minutes from “town” and beaches. There is also a playground down the street near Maria’s beach. My wife and I are runners and were challenged by the hills and trails (to Domes beach), which is a good thing. The pool was private and relaxing with chase lounges and umbrellas. Things to note: the roads are very narrow around Rincon, so watch yourself. Jogging is a little risky, but we managed to stay visible and safe. Keep in mind that you are on an island paradise. It is easy to forget that you are a minority, in that you are human. Wildlife is all around you. You will be reminded at night when they wake up. Frogs, roosters, and the like will say good night and good morning, but honestly you get used to them. You will get the same experience regardless of where you stay, so this isn’t a knock on this property at all. Lastly, the owner was more than accommodating to us and our requests. With 2 toddlers, it wasn’t easy finding a place that met our needs. We needed high chairs, pack & plays, washing machines (we stayed for 2 weeks) etc. All was taken care of. When (not if) we come back to Rincon we will be staying here again, no question.

I can’t recommend this place enough. Rooftop deck and balcony were awesome, actually even better than Craig’s write up. There are two water views, an interesting feature. Location was great for all restaurants and beaches. The pool was beautiful, not large, but classy. Well kept, well furnished, well landscaped, well managed. Security over the top. Big enough for six easy, and ten if you squeezed, without renting basement apartment, so price is right for 2-3 couples.

We were travelling with two young families (6 young girls 11-16) and were a bit apprehensive but we couldn’t have had a better time. This property has it all. Great layout, great views, nice pool and everything you would need for a week at the beach. Including the beach chairs and cooler! Wow. The property is in an area where you can get to any of the beaches that you will want in two minutes. The house is very secure and would make the most uncomfortable person feel very secure. As a father traveling with 4 daughters I felt VERY COMFORTABLE. The home owner has this place dialed in like you wouldn’t believe. Not that there were any issues but you can never think of everything. He responded on any questions we had and made our vacation. Great Time in Rincon!

The Surf Break was the most wonderful experience! Not only was the house updated, clean, beautifully decorated and in a GREAT location but the views that it has are absolutely amazing! The Surf Break has the million dollar view. Every morning we would take the 2 minute walk to the local bakery, grab a tasty breakfast sandwich, and walk right back to the house to sit, relax, drink coffee and just stare out at the ocean. The pool was the perfect size and we spent many mornings and late afternoons by it when we needed a break from the beach. The roof deck was also a huge plus! We spent every night on the roof deck watching Rincon’s most beautiful sunsets… and when the sun went down we stare up at the sky and see many shooting stars. The house was equipped with every beach supply you would ever need: chairs, umbrellas, towels, coolers, etc. Overall we had a great trip and had a great time staying at The Surf Break. I recommend this place to anyone. We will be back!!

We loved the porch off the family room, and spent many evening hours there enjoying the sunset. The doors and windows were very secure and we felt safe at all times. The bathrooms were wonderful, and the kitchen was fully stocked with up to date appliances and utensils. After a morning surf session, the pool was perfect for lounging. The only downside that I can think of, were the noisy neighborhood roosters beginning at an early morning hour. We hope to stay here again when we return to Rincon!

This home has to be the best view in Rincon! If you like a sunrise or a sunset, you must book this vacation home. We were a family of 8 with children and we all had a fantastic time. Craig the owner and his wife, just couldn’t be any more helpful, with all the information that they provided. The location was is in a perfect spot, we had everything that one needs to make your stay at ease, from updated kitchen appliances to a large assortment of cookware and so on, just like home. You truly feel safe and secure with this modern set up. The quality locks and storm ready features are awesome. The power had gone out, and in seconds the automatic backup generator kicked right in. Conveniently there is a store/ cafe walking distance no more than 2 minutes away, which is great for breakfast or lunch. The home was very clean and decor was outstanding. The pool is a nice relaxing time, and the roof top views are amazing!!! I will be staying here again no doubt about it.

They’ve really built a beautiful place to set up camp and surf all the breaks around Rincon. You can see both coasts, watch sunrise with a coffee and sunset with a beer from the roof. Layout and amenities are on point and perfect. Open, airy and top notch. Can’t say enough kind things and truly hope to cross paths with Craig and his family in the future to repay the favor.

Four of us rented this unit for a week in February 2013. We had a great experience. The home is very spacious, comfy and clean. There are ceiling fans and AC units throughout. Balconies and roof decks with gorgeous views of the ocean on both sides of the house. There is a beach within walking distance. There are lots of restaurants nearby, including some within walking distance and a bakery/shop within site of the front door. The pool (looks tiny in the pictures but is actually a decent size) is great for relaxing at the end of the day. The owner was courtesy and helpful in every way. They provided everything you could think of needing for a vacation at the beach and handled the rental process professionally. My partner and I travel quite a bit and almost always do rentals through VRBO – this was one of our best experiences to date. Check out the owner’s website for more details on the home. With regards to the area – if you’ve only stay on the east side of the island or in San Juan, you’re missing out. The west offers a different experience and there’s lots to do. Camuy Caves are a short drive away, there are beautiful beaches to the south in Cabo Rojo, and in Parguera to the south there are mangrove islands off the coast where you can boat and swim. We had a wonderful time and we highly recommend both the area and the home.

“Fantastic Stay for Family of 7 at The Surf Break”
Date of Stay Jun 23, 2012

My family of 7 rented The Surf Break House plus the 1-bedroom apartment for 6 days. I was traveling with my kids, siblings and parents and the amount of space the house afforded was wonderful for our large group. The house is very nicely decorated with a homey and welcoming feel, is well lit outside, and beautifully landscaped. The upper level patio and the roof deck are AWESOME and provide great views and comfort. We didn’t get a chance to use the huge Weber grill provided on the roof deck but having it available was a plus. The owners really thought things out for their guests such as providing all the kitchen-ware and appliance (large & small) you will need including a wine cooler, dishes, cooking utensils, pan & pots, glassware, towels, toilet paper, books, maps, bedding, etc. just like being at home; plus on-site laundry facilities; an outside shower to remove sand before entering the house; clotheslines in gated carport area as well as in all showers; a large foyer entrance for storage as well as many secure places outside; provided coolers, umbrellas and chairs for beach use; easy to use keyless entry doors; and friendly neighbors to help with anything else if needed. The pool was under construction when we were there but will be a very nice amenity once completed. Only issue for us and only briefly had to do with the neighborhood roosters and dogs barking in the mornings as people began moving about in the neighborhood. Our solution; earplugs for the light sleepers and go to bed early to get up with them and begin to enjoy the beautiful mornings on the roof deck or a walk down to the beach. The water was great at any time of day. There is also a bakery/restaurant on the corner (maybe 50 yards from house) that provides some grocery items, fresh-baked goods, breakfasts and a fun destination for short morning walks.

WOW! That is all I can say about this view. Honestly, the pictures don’t do it justice. The views from all the balconies are stunning. In addition, you can tell this place has been recently constructed so it is extremely clean and up to date, which is not the case for many vacation rentals in the area. There was more space than we expected. Craig, the owner, was very responsive by email and answered any questions we had. He emails over great directions and descriptions of places in the area so you don’t have to spend as much time having to figure it out for yourself…a big time saver which is important on a limited vacation. In addition, there is a place just steps from here called Puntas Bakery which has great food and is extremely convenient and inexpensive for breakfast or lunch. You may want to plan some extra time to eat here though because all the locals come by and it can get quite busy and backed up. One place that was not on the list that I would add is “Ode to the Elephants”. It’s a Thai fusion place with fantastic food and another stunning view, and it’s minutes from the Surf Break. The only thing this place is lacking is that its not on the beach, but then again if it was on the beach it would not have this view, and the beach is only a 2 minute car ride or a long walk away. A pool or hot tub would be perfect, and I hear that may be in the works!

My husband, parents and I stayed in this home for six days at the end of March / beginning of April. It was perfect. There is plenty of space for hanging out in the living room, on the roof deck, and on the numerous balconies. The owners have thought of everything here from beach gear to kitchen items. AC is available in all of the rooms, but there is such a nice breeze when you open the windows, that you barely need it. All the local people we met were very welcoming and we were a 3-minute drive to several different surf spots. In short, this would be a perfect house for families, surfers, or anyone looking for a high-end property in a fantastic location. We can’t wait to go back!

Our visit to Rincon was fabulous. Our family with 3 pre-teens truly enjoyed the stay. There was plenty of space for everyone. The house was immaculate, and the view was spectacular. The roof space is truly a treat. The owner provided a lot of useful information on the area, restaurants, beaches, etc. Detailed directions were very helpful. Area snorkeling was great. The restaurants were much better than I had expected, and the range of cuisine broad (beach bar, coffee/smoothie shop, Thai food, sushi). Highly recommend!

Took the opportunity to go down for a short stay in Rincon to check out places to bring the family. Decided to stay at the Surf Break. The house was much bigger than expected with huge common areas with LOTS of seating. Unlike other places we have stayed everything in the home is clearly high end. The covered and roof top decks have unbelievable views that the pictures don’t do justice to. The Roof top deck is gigantic and also has lots of seating. The master bedroom is huge with private decks but I the bedroom with the Queen bed is just as nice and I think has an even better ocean view. Safe for kids. Going to come back this year with the family and since the house is bigger than we expected I think we will invite a friends family to split the cost.

A great location and a a very clean and well-maintained property that instantly “feels like home”. If using the owner’s GPS directions, rather than continuing 1/4 mile down the road, look for the casita immediately as you turn onto his street … you can’t miss the blue casita (and adjoining bigger house) and the driveway is pretty much straight in after you make the turn. We were never able to get the cable TV working, despite the owner’s help … but with all there is to do around Rincon that wasn’t a huge concern. Do be aware that the master bedroom is hard by the street, so can be a bit noisy. Not much traffic at night, though. A great place to listen to the coqui frogs after enjoying sunset from the wonderful top deck. The occasional VERY loud squawks from the neighbor’s parrot across the street added a fun touch during the day.

“Awesome Stay!!”

We have been staying in Rincon for the past few years looking for the ‘right’ place. I think we have found it. We usually only stay right on the water, but we didn’t mind being up the hill, and only a couple minutes from the great surf spots. The owners could not be nicer and more welcoming. We stayed in the smaller of the 2 properties, but got a tour of the main house and both are very nice. We will absolutely be staying here again, and again!! Highly recommend this place!!

“Surf Casita – fantastic vacation”

We stayed at the smaller property adjacent the big Surf Break house, the Surf Casita, and had a fantastic stay. The place is very conveniently located to all the surf breaks, anywhere from 2-5 minutes away (we had a car). The apartment is super cute and very well-appointed, and Craig the owner was always very helpful, responsive, and top of things. While we were there the wifi went down for a few days because of issues with the company (not with our house at all), and Craig was totally on it right away, calling the company and keeping us constantly updated on the progress. I would love to return to Rincón and stay at this place again.

Our stay at the Surf Casita was amazing! It’s location is perfect- within a 5 minute drive to most of the best surf breaks in Rincon. The house is perfect for 2 couples or a few friends. One of the major highlights is the rooftop patio. We spent many nights up there hanging out, cooking dinner on the barbeque and checking out the stars. Craig was extremely helpful. He gave us a ton of info on all the surf spots and was available every time I needed to get in contact with him. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Rincon. Many thanks to Craig!
