Rental Cars General Info: I do not recomend Allied rental and have been told many times at the counter that the web site price is an “estimate” only to end up paying more than I was quoted. I do recommend that with ALL the companies that you pre-pay for the car online so you are certain to get the price you expect. For most if not all insurance companies renting in PR is no different than renting anywhere in the 50 states. If you dont normally get extra rental car insurance then you may or may not want to get it here.
Rental Cars Toll Fee: I have mentioned above that the Rental car companies always try and up sell you on everything. The latest is the automated Toll. For reasons I cant explain PR decided to put up unmanned toll booths that make it necesary for you to use the rental car companies pass for a premium. I haven’t been keeping close track but decided to start.
Thrifty: $4.99 per day whether you use it or not. Apparently they will cover the toll charge so lets say $2.00 each way between San Juan and Rincon. Probably one of the most expensive. More to follow
AVIS: $3.95 per day plus tolls. The “Convenience Fee” currently (10/31/18) maxes out at $19.75.
Alamo: Don’t have the details but pretty sure they are the best at ~$4 per day plus toll but only charges on the day you have a toll charge. Unlikely if you are staying anywhere around Rincon that you will have a toll charge besides to and from San Juan.
Rental Car Deposit: A new one was the rental car deposit fee. Was charged an additional $250 as a “deposit”, this was a new one for me and I asked a bunch of questions and then made sure I confirmed we got the credit after the rental.
